Being in the heart of Surrey, surrounded by acres of picturesque countryside and close to the River Thames, means that we are often light-heartedly referred to as the “Surrey Riviera”!

It’s a welcome compliment, with Surrey becoming a popular staycation destination this summer, as many of us all try to escape the restrictions of lockdown and make the most of the summer holidays, whilst staying Covid-19 secure.

This summer, there’s so much to see and do during your stay with us, whether you’re looking to paddleboard along the river or simply sit and relax with a delightful Afternoon Tea. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite things that are right on our doorstep, meaning that you can make the most of our Surrey Riviera location and stay local.

1. Afternoons by the River Thames
Take a walk to Walton Marina (1.5 miles away) and find a secluded spot along the River Thames to relax and watch the world go by. There’s plenty to see along the banks of the river, from the local wildlife, with elegant white swans and European Geese, to luxury boats and narrowboats cruising pass.

2. On the river
Get active and take to the water on a paddleboard! The Blue Chip SUP school offer lessons for stand up paddleboarding for individuals and groups every Thursday and Friday evening, and Saturday and Sunday mornings from mid-March to the end of October. Whether you’re a beginner or a regular, their talented team of instructors are accredited by the Academy of Surfers to help you to navigate the waters. Click here to book a lesson by nearby Walton Bridge.

3. Walk into Weybridge
Ask for a walking map from our reception desk and take a stroll into the local town of Weybridge (0.8 miles away). As you walk down Monument Hill, look out for the column which was erected in 1820 to Princess Frederica Charlotte, the Duchess of York. She spent lots of her married life at Oatlands Palace and was a popular local benefactress in the community. When you get to the Highstreet why not browse some of the boutiques and stop off for a coffee in one of the independent cafes?

4. Afternoon Tea
At Oatlands Park Hotel, afternoon tea isn’t just for special occasions, it’s nearly a daily ritual! Indulge in one of the most quintessentially British traditions, served Monday to Saturday from 3pm, and enjoy skillfully made sandwiches, warm baked scones and the most delicate cakes and pastries. And, of course, no afternoon tea would be complete with our selection of freshly brewed tea by our boutique tea house, T2, and a glass of chilled champagne!

5. Sundowners
Our terrace gardens are a real suntrap and have the most beautiful views of the surrounding grounds. At the end of the day, there’s no better place to sit and watch the sun go down with a glass of something chilled in hand!
